Leaving the UK?

Any individual who has obtained qualifications in the UK has the right to work, to seek work, to set up business or to provide services in any other Member State of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland.

Just like the UK, every other member state has professions that are regulated and as such the competent authority in the country you wish to work may require you to obtain professional recognition of your qualifications.

The European Directive 2005/36/EC applies to all Member State citizens wishing to practice a regulated profession in a Member State other than the one they obtained their professional qualifications.

You must establish if your profession is regulated in your destination country; please refer to the full list of each country's regulated professions.

If you are from the UK and your profession is regulated in the Member State of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland that you wish to practice in, then you will need to contact the appropriate NCP in your destination country who will refer you to the authority responsible for giving access to the profession to obtain recognition of your professional status. Please use the following database to determine the appropriate contact.

If you are unsure as to the status of your profession, contact the NCP in your destination country for further information.
